Dentures Versus Partials
Both are custom appliances made from impressions of your mouth to replace missing teeth. Both need a short adjustment period, after which many people forget they are wearing them.
Complete Dentures
Complete (full) dentures replace an entire arch of teeth. There are two main types:
- Conventional dentures are made after any remaining teeth are removed and the gums and bone have healed, which gives the best fit, comfort and function.
- Immediate dentures go in right after the remaining teeth are removed. The gums and bone change shape as they heal, so these need adjustments and relining later.
Partial Dentures
Partials replace missing teeth when some natural teeth remain. Lifelike teeth sit on a gum-colored resin base, usually attached to crowns on natural teeth or implants with a metal framework and clasps.
