Comprehensive Dental Exams
A comprehensive exam gives us the full picture of your oral health: your teeth, gums, bite, jaw joints and soft tissues. It is where every treatment plan at Main Street Dental Smiles begins.
What Your Comprehensive Exam Includes
- A full-mouth series of X-rays, taken by the dental assistant
- A talk about your dental and general health since your last exam
- A review of your X-rays for decay, cracks and chips
- An evaluation of your bite and jaw
- An exam and chart of your existing fillings and crowns
- Screening for gum and periodontal disease
- A TMJ (jaw joint) exam
- An oral cancer screening
- A conversation about any cosmetic concerns you have
Periodic Exams
The American Dental Association recommends a comprehensive exam starting at age two, then periodic exams every six months for life.
Regular exams let us catch problems early, which helps you avoid more costly treatment later and keep as many of your natural teeth as possible. At each periodic exam, we take the X-rays you need and talk about anything that has come up since your last visit.
