First Aid for Common Emergencies
Toothache: rinse with warm water, floss out any trapped food and take an over-the-counter pain reliever. A cold compress helps with an abscess or facial swelling.
Knocked-out adult tooth: hold it by the crown, not the root, rinse it with clean water and gently put it back in the socket. If you cannot, keep it in milk and get to us quickly. A tooth treated within an hour has the best chance.
Loose, chipped, cracked or broken tooth: save any pieces and bring them in, and use a cold compress for swelling. Gentle pressure helps control bleeding; uncontrollable bleeding needs the emergency room.
