- Patients who are highly fearful and anxious about receiving dental care
- Patients with past traumatic dental experiences
- Patients that have difficulty becoming numb
- Patients in need of lengthy, complex procedures
- Patients with a strong gag reflex

Is Sedation Dentistry Safe?
Sedation dentistry has a very high safety record when administered by a trained dental professional. Just as with any other treatment, precautions are necessary, including evaluating your health condition and current medications. At Main Street Dental Smiles, we adhere to all recommended safety protocols and monitor your vitals throughout any treatment. Our team is highly trained and experienced in administering dental sedation and is committed to providing you with a safe and exceptional treatment experience.
What Are Types of Sedation Dentistry?
Main Street Dental Smiles is proud to offer a range of sedation dentistry options to ensure you are fully relaxed and comfortable throughout any dental procedure. Despite being known as sleep dentistry, patients usually remain awake and responsive except those under general anesthesia.
- Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas): This minimal inhaled sedation option involves breathing nitrous oxide mixed with oxygen through a mask to relax. We also administer a local anesthetic to eliminate pain. Nitrous oxide sedation wears off completely after removing your mask.
- Oral Sedation: Oral sedatives are pills taken the day of or the night before the procedure. You’ll feel relaxed and drowsy but will stay conscious and responsive to directions. Most patients do not remember much after treatment.
- IV Sedation: This safe and effective sedation method is typically monitored by an anesthesiologist. You’ll feel relaxed and comfortable and have little or no recollection of the procedure.
- General Anesthesia: This form of sedation causes temporary loss of consciousness and is typically recommended by our team for more complex treatments.
